“In my twelve years working with Dave, I came to realize one central fact of his character and vocation: he was the most natural, genuine, and skilled coach, teacher, mentor, and counselor that I have known. Athletics were just the official aspect of his work, and he was a master coach, especially of cross country and track. But on so many occasions I saw him give students his full attention and care, providing encouragement, counsel, and comfort with genuine care. He loved and was loved.”

“I am deeply saddened with the news of Dave's passing. I knew Dave for years and years and was his second hand "Mann" with the Crystal Springs Uplands Cross Country team. He was a great guy, full of fun, dedicated to running and was always there for the students. Our trips together to all the cross country meets and far away events were always something that we looked forward to. He will be greatly missed. I even remember us calling our coaching, "The Dave and Vicky Show"! Vicky Mann-Hauer”
