He was predeceased by: his parents, Olaf James and Viola James; his brother Larry; and his stepdaughter Laura. He is survived by: his wife Wendy; his brother Richard (Jeannine); his children, Douglas (Shannon) and Allison; the mother of his children Lesley; his son-in-law Steve; and his grandchildren, Allison (Andrew), Megan (Matt), Robyn (Daniel), Sarah (Tyler), Emily and Jack. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
