He is survived by: his siblings, Tiffany Gilpin of Santee, Nadine LaPointe (Virgil) of Columbus, Michelle Saul (James) of Santee, Thomas Trooper James Jr. (Deana) of Santee, Nathaniel Gilpin Jr. (Teresa) of Wabeno and Josephine Gilpin of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and his daughters, Margaret Blackbird and Mayla Grant of Sioux City, Iowa. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
