With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Akiko Kato of Saratoga, California, born in Sacramento, California, who passed away on May 27, 2022 at the age of 97. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Akiko Kato to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her husband Tadaaki Kato; her siblings, Kazuo Ishida, Reiko Maemura (Shinobu) and Miyoko Yoshida; and her sons-in-law, Jack Weinstein and Victor Velez.
She is survived by: her children, Setsuko Sinclair (Scott) of Santa Cruz, June Weinstein of Villa Park, Tad Kato (JoAnn) of Scotts Valley, Mary Rumney (Craig) of Watsonville, Nancy Velez of Watsonville, Eileen Klockgether (Joe) of Sacramento, Tom Kato (Wanda) of Sacramento and Kathy Ito (Doug) of Aptos; her nephew Michael Maemura of Gardena; and her sibling Emi Takeuchi (Ben) of Culver City. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple at a later date but is restricted to family due to covid.
