He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel B. Akins and Edna H. Akins of Visalia; and his brother James A. Akins of Strathmore. He is survived by: his close friend Dr. William V. Allen; his wife Jeanette (Jan); his children, Michael Akins of Visalia, David Akins and Wendy Chadwick of Sutter Creek, California.; his daughter-in-law Mary Kay; his grandchildren, Brett and Katie (Brandon); his great grandchildren, Camden and Brynnley; his daughter-in-law April; his grandson Stephen (Stacee); his great grandchildren, Samuel and Annabelle; his son-in-law Jeremy; and his grandsons, Jason, Brennan and Caleb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hinds Hospice of Fresno, The Church of Shaver Lake, or Visalia United Methodist Church.
