He was predeceased by: his brothers, Wane and Darryl Opliger; and his mother Judy Ratzlaff. He is survived by: his wife Rosa Vega; his in-laws, Daniel and Teresa; his sisters, Karla Corky Mitchell and Gayla Judd; his aunts, Dotsy and Shirley; his sister-in-law Peggy Sand (Dean); Erika (Nick), Gerardo, Destiny, Chris, Anahi, Al's, Lloyd and Brendan Kirk.

He volunteered for the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and the U.S. Veterans, enjoyed going on bike rides and was learning how to pay the guitar.
