He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Hartnett Shiels; his children, Gavin Shiels (Britta Shiels) of Sebastopol, CA and Mary Shiels Mendez (Rosalani Mendez) of San Francisco; his brother Ed Shiels (Becky Shiels) of San Francisco; and his grandchildren, Lachlan Shiels and Stellan Shiels. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
