He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Holmgren and Hilda Holmgren; his wife Kathy; and his siblings, Carl Edward, Martha Howard and Camille Branch.

He is survived by: his children, Jacob Holmgren, Phillip Holmgren, Sarah Holmgren-Casillas and Julie Holmgren; and his grandchildren, Sean, Ian, Ryan, Wesson, Wynter and Cora. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, who loved him as a brother; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
