Anna Marie (Roberts) Hoover Obituary

Anna Hoover passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17th at 10:10am. Anna Hoover was born on April 27, 1928 in Merchantville, New Jersey.

She was the last child born to Lilly Eberhardt (mother) and Edward Frye Roberts (father). Her sisters were Lilly and her husband Bob Salgado, Ruth and her husband Jerry O’Connell, Ida Mitten; Julie (Richard) Seitz; Her brothers were: John, Charles and Edward and his wife Elsie.

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden, New Jersey. Early in life, Anna showed a strong interest in being a ballerina and seeing the world. At 19, she left Chicago, Illinois to pursue her dream to study at the Academy of Music, the forerunners of the American Ballet Company.

When World War II was declared, she enlisted with the WAVES and served in the US Army as a driver and secretary. While in the service she was tested and accepted to take advanced mathematics and science courses at the University of Chicago.

In 1972, Anna married Captain Leroy Hoover of the U.S. Navy, moving with him to Glendale and Tarzana, California. She was a devoted mother to two boys: Michael (who died in infancy) and Todd Leroy Hoover.

She spent significant time reading, playing the piano, bicycling and stain-glass making and boating with her husband.

She then spent a long career as computer programmer and coder with Litton. Periodically, she pursued studies in computer technology at Pierce College. She was a cofounder of the Litton Bike Club.

She was married 34 years until her husband’s retirement. Two years later when she retired, she recommitted herself to many hours of reading National Geographic, Readers’ Digest, Psychology Today, Parabola, and pursing her second dream of traveling. In retirement, she also studied hydroponics and environmental gardening.

For years, Anna joined an elder-hostel travel group and ventured to Mexico, Argentina, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Mayanmore (Berma), China, and eventually she lived in Costa Rica for 18 years.

Anna Hoover was loved by all, who appreciated her dedicated work ethic, spirit, optimism and working with computers. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and her husband and her son, Michael.

She is survived by her son Todd Leroy Hoover, and her daughter-in-law, Minerva L. Williams, and a host of nieces and nephews, and a few travel friends in Costa Rica.
