Harry Anthony Maloney Obituary

Harry Anthony Maloney Obituary
Harry was born on January 15, 1946 in Los Angeles and left this Earth on May 17, 2016.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn; son Quinn; stepchildren, Danika and Chris Reddick; sister Patricia Nichols; sister Kathleen Rembish and her husband Richard; and brother Dan Maloney.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Paulsen.
Raised in San Gabriel, CA, Harry developed a love of basketball, which influenced his life greatly. After graduating from San Gabriel Mission High School, he received a full collegiate athletic scholarship. Harry graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fresno State with a Master of Arts. Inspired by John F. Kennedy's words, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," Harry became a teacher and coach at North High in Bakersfield, CA, in hopes of inspiring future generations.
In 1993, Harry met Dawn while teaching an aerobics class at a local gym, and they were married three years later. Harry's pride and joy, Quinn, was born in 1999. After 31 years teaching high school, in 2003, Harry and his family moved to Ventura, CA. From that time forward, Harry focused on what he came to believe was his greatest role in life: that of a father. While Quinn was in school, Harry kept busy by continuing to instruct at several local gyms. His favorite classes were the senior exercise classes because of their sincere gratitude and caring.
After surviving non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for 15 years, Harry was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in December 2015. Determined to overcome, and see his son into manhood, Harry continued to exemplify his favorite mantra, "Live strong! In mind, body and spirit." His relentless determination is a true inspiration.
We will miss Harry forever and will celebrate his life on Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 1-4 p.m., at Grant Park in Ventura. You are invited to participate by e-mailing [email protected] where you can share a favorite memory or thought about your experiences with Harry. We will compile these reflections into a booklet for all to share at his Celebration of Life.
