Lila Lee Aurich Obituary

Lila Lee Aurich died April 15 after a brief illness. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia, and grew up in a variety of places, including Chicago, Illinois and Johannesburg, South Africa. She graduated from Parktown Girls High School in Johannesburg, Northwestern University, and earned a master's degree from Goddard University. She lived in Los Angeles for 75 years, largely in the West San Fernando Valley.

In her long life, Lila had a wide variety of roles: wife, mother, community organizer and activist, and passionate volunteer. Professionally, she worked as a human computer in the early aerospace industry, and later as a fiscal analyst for the L.A. Community College District. After she retired, she served multiple terms, including President, on the board of Haven Hills, a leading domestic violence shelter with creative and multiple programs in the San Fernando Valley. She was also very active in leadership roles in the Folk Dance Federation of Southern California, West Valley Folk Dancers, American Association of University Women (AAUW), and Woodland Hills Community Church.

Lila is survived by her husband, Wally; children, Lee of Oakland, Sherri Aurich-Hardy of Riverside, and Mike of Chatsworth; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Betty Doversberger of Chicago, Illinois.

The family suggests contributions in her honor to Haven Hills (havenhills.org or P.O. Box 260, Canoga Park, CA 91305).

A memorial service will be held at Woodland Hills Community Church, 21338 Dumetz Rd, Woodland Hills, CA 91364 at 2pm Saturday, June 18.
