He was predeceased by: his parents, Garrison C. Cowen and Marjorie Cowen; his siblings, Darrel and Winifred Jane; and his in-laws, Howard and Violet Wiseman.

He is survived by: his wife Judy; his daughters, Rhonda Benton (Carl), Becky Margolis (Zach), Laurie Schmit and Amy Boren (Chris); his sister Judy Barttelbort (Ron); his grandchildren, Katie Little (Zane), David Scheuermann (Gianna Bell), Abbie Boren (Matthew Vanderwerff), C. J. Benton, Ethan Boren (Mahlia Glass), Bella Rulon, Tate Schmit, Natalie Margolis, Jacob Margolis and Kala Thompson; and his great grandchildren, Mackenzie Newcomer and Cooper Scheuermann.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
