He was predeceased by: his parents, James H. Brooks and Annie Mae Brooks; and his siblings, Dorothy, Marilyn, Orlando, Melvin, Christopher, Walter and Antonio.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Brooks of Denver, Colorado; his children, Darnell Brooks, Da'Shone Merritt (Eric) of Virginia, Lionel Brooks Jr. of Denver, Colorado and Jarmar Wise of Denver, Colorado; his stepson Michael Woodard Jr. (Nora) of Denver, Colorado; and his siblings, Geraldine Sproling, Patricia Stephen, Veronica Smith and John Brooks of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
