He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel H. Shafer and Gladys L. Shafer (Brown); his wife Carol Jean Starnes; his sister Barbara Faye Jones (Calvin); his son-in-law Lyn E. Wiley; and his in-laws, Ina G., Ernest Ray Starnes, Donald Ray, Shirley Marie Starnes (Kramer) and William Rose.
He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Wiley of St. Francis, KS, Kathy Goodell of Wray, CO and Terri Walzel (Rodney) of Conroe, TX; his grandsons, Dustin Wiley (Randi) of Okemah, OK, Darin Wiley (Taylor) of Snook, TX, Landon Goodell (Tiffany) of Newnan, GA and Austin Goodell of Senoia, GA; his great grandchildren, Alexis Goodell of Newnan, GA and Weston Wiley of Okemah, OK; his sister Lila Jean Shafer of Scotts Bluff, NE; and his siblings-in-law, Margaret Rose of San Clemente, CA and Robert Starnes (Carol Ann) of Branson, MO. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 19th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Wray United Methodist Church (500 Blake St, Wray, CO 80758).
Memorial contributions may be made to Wray Veterans, Disabled Veterans (DAV), Fisher House of Aurora, Wray Masonic Lodge, or Hospice of the Plains.
