He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldred "Bud" Backes and Fran Backes. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Backes (Green); his son Keith; his grandchildren, Christian, Braden and Chance; his son Kent; his grandchildren, Henry, William, Kurt, Bergen and Rigzton; his brother Larry; his sister-in-law Pat Backes; and his in-laws, Sam, Linda Green, Charles, Kathy Green, Cleone and Bob Haferman. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 29th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the South Suburban Golf Course (7900 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80122).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dick's memory to the Arapahoe High School Science Department—a tribute to his enduring commitment to education and student success.
