He was predeceased by : his parents, John Edgar and Juanita Rachel Murphy (Cawthon); his wife Sheila Mae Gardner; his brothers, James Murphy (Jim) of Texas and Jack Murphy; his children, Miriam Juanita Petersen of Oklahoma and Thomas Leon Murphy; and his grandchildren, Brian Thomas Murphy, Cody Leon Rhein and Sandra Anne Reed-Gatsos.

He is survived by : his children, Michael Brian Murphy (Brandy), Deborah Anne Murphy, Leah Kay Slaton, Tamara Marie (Murphy) and Hargett (Aaron). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren.
