With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Lester Payton (Fort Collins, Colorado), who passed away on January 21, 2020 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Mont Payton and Mary Payton (Jordan); and his siblings, Beulah, Bobby, Charles, Rufus Lee and Chester.

He is survived by: his former wives, June and Jo Ann Hatfield-Payton; his grandson Brandon Niebur; his sister Dorothy Swackhammer; and his sister-in-law Sharon Payton (Jim).

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Legion or LaPorte Presbyterian Church.

“Lester was my neighbor for 23 years. He was a good and helpful neighbor who would offer to edge my lawn, would fill my bike tires. I know he was lonely during his last few years and was thankful for anyone who would visit with him. I wish I would have been a better neighbor to him in return. Lester, if you can hear me still, I cared more than you knew and looked out for you when you weren't looking. Thank you for being my neighbor. I will miss you. I hope you are happy in Paradise.”
