He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Walter I. Werner and Dr. Ly Werner; and his former wife Judith Ann Urban Werner. He is survived by: his children, Brad Werner (Robin) and Susan Wilby (Tom); his stepchildren, Stefan Nanini (Joie), Weston Nanini and Drea Nanini; his stepgrandchild Nehla; and his grandchildren, Tommy Werner (Lucy), Cole Werner (Katie), Frank Werner (Alexis), Taylor Wilby (McKenzie), James Wilby (Mary) and Cate Wilby. He is also survived by his 8 great-grandchildren.

“Walter and I met when he was in college, and I was at UNM. People thought we were meant for us to be together. We went to Notre Dame games loved the college, remembering the swirling leaves of October. Trips to Santa Fe were wonderful. I gave him back the beautiful ring and returned my wedding dress. I was right. He was one of the most honorable men I knew. I had at least 15 proposals. He was my forever friend...”
