He was predeceased by : his father Lloyd Smith; and his grandmother Dorothy Lillge. He is survived by : his mother Linda Smith; his siblings, Tami Huenefeld (Scott) of Freeport, Melinda Hartman (Tom) of Freeport and Tony Smith of Oregon; his children, Jade Smith (Josh) and David Smith of Rockford; his nieces and nephews, Aerile Smith (Jacob) of Freeport, Morgan Cox of Freeport, Coty Klinger of Rockford, Dylan and Rylie Smith of Colorado; and his sister-in-law Jill Griffanti of Colorado.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Denny's memory.
