Barbara Counts Grebe Obituary
Barbara J. Grebe, 85, of Golden, Colorado passed away on November 24th, Thanksgiving Day, 2022. She was born on July 19th, 1937, in Washington D.C. and was the oldest of 4 children. She spent much of her childhood in Arlington Virginia and enjoyed extended summer vacations with her grandparents in Ozark, Arkansas where she discovered her lifelong passion for gardening.
In 1948 the family moved to Denver where she attended Blessed Sacrament and Cathedral High School. She was married for 25 years to Don Grebe, and they had 4 children. She had many jobs in her lifetime including Benders Bakery in Denver and The Pentagon in Washington D.C. Barbara was very successful in her career working as a leasing specialist for the federal government. Her job required travel where she got to see many interesting places.
In her retirement, Barbara enjoyed life tending to her garden, especially her rose bushes. She loved listening to and playing music, attending theatre and concerts, baking pies and visiting with friends and family. She also had many other amazing talents like painting and sewing. She always had a special touch in everything she did like leaving little funny notes with a drawing or making a special care package when you would visit. Barbara had a great sense of humor and was one of the kindest and charitable people you would ever meet.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Celia Counts, her brother Robert Counts and brother-in-law Richard Purdie. She is survived by her four children Greg (Cathy) Grebe of California, Chris Grebe of Denver, CO, Karen (Art) Dorr of Aurora, CO, Jennifer Grebe of Wheat Ridge, CO, her former husband Don Grebe of Lakewood, CO, her siblings Sue Purdie, Denver, CO, Charles (Suzie) Counts, Richmond, VA and sister-in-law Laurie Counts, Culpeper, VA. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren of California, nieces, nephews, and a network of extended family, friends and pets.
Those wishing to honor Barbara's life may make donations in her name to the Denver Botanic Gardens.
Funeral services will held in a private ceremony on Monday, December 12th at 11:30 a.m. at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary Chapel / Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 12801 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
