He was predeceased by: his parents, Estel Avery and Olive Christman Avery; and his siblings, Barbara, Peggy and Paul.

He is survived by: his sons, Larry J. Avery (Tamara) and Garry R. Avery; his wife Patsy "Thomas" Avery; his grandchildren, Ric, Nicole Avery of Grand Junction, CO and Tara Avery of Fruita, CO; his siblings, Roger of Edmond, Steve of Covington, Mark of Mesa, Cindy of Moab and Lisa of Mesa, Arizona.; and also Kyle Beaver of Grand Junction, CO.
