In the sacred silence of farewell, Michael is released into the embrace of eternity, knowing that his light will continue to shine brightly in the tapestry of the lives of his loved ones. And as his memory is carried forward, may comfort be found in the knowledge that love is eternal, and that Michael's spirit lives on in the beauty that surrounds us.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Virginia Matthews and Malvin Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Maureen Adele Rupe; his brothers, Lynn Matthews and Larry Matthews; and his stepchildren, Stacey Howard (Dan), Brent Rupe (Misty) and Brandon Rupe. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 9th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado (2830 Riverside Pkwy, Grand Junction, CO 81501).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in honor of Michael Douglas Matthews to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at (T2T.org) supporting veterans.
