He was predeceased by : his parents, Lewis Dirks and Dora Dirks (Denbo); his wife Phyllis; and his son Derek. He is survived by : his children, David (Julie) of Amherst and Gretchen Dirks of Aurora; his grandchildren, Stephan of Julesburg, Landon of Seward, NE, Lucas, Brady and Ashley Hoffner of Holyoke; his great grandchild Ty Dirks; and his grandchildren, Aeryn, Brooklyn, Daxton Dirks, Sadie, Carson, Milo Dirks, Braxton Jackson, Bryson, Dathyn, Brody, Jenna, Connor and Jade Hoffner. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in LD's memory for later designation.
