He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Burkey and Clara Schneider Burkey. He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Pat" Bryant; his children, Charles Burkey (Pamela), Debra Martinez (Gary Prochilo), Herbert Burkey II (Jeanette) and Karen Marcy (Brian); and his grandchildren, Charles Burkey Jr., Brandon Burkey, Elizabeth Shilof, Katie Martinez, Emma Marcy and Jack Marcy. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
