It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Robert Schmelzer of La Junta, Colorado, who passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Donald Schmelzer and Clara Schmelzer (Seel); his siblings, Steve Schmelzer and Jeanette Pechak; his niece Shannon; and his sister-in-law Adeline Cihla.

He is survived by : his wife Gladys Schmelzer; his children, Cherie Chigma, Tracy Gundersen (Scott) and Jason Schmelzer (Kayla); his grandchildren, Nora, Sebatian Chigma, Bryden and Sharon Gundersen; and his brothers, Walter Schmelzer (Jaylene) and Jerry Schmelzer (Larue).
