He is survived by : his mother Carol Schmitz (Nosbisch) of New Hampton, IA; and his siblings, Cathy Schmitz of Henderson, NV, Paul Schmitz of New Hope, MN, Tom Schmitz of Rapid City, SD and John Schmitz of Rapid City, SD.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

“My condolences to the Schmitz family. Chris and I had been friends for 30 years, 16 at Bagdad in the Engineering and Geology group, we even shared an office for awhile. Chris loved the outdoors and he and I went rock collecting many times in and around Bagdad, and to the Quartzite rock shows. For most of those 16 years Chris had Thanksgiving with my family at our home in Prescott. Those were very good times as were out many stew cookouts in the desert. I will miss you old friend, RIP.”
