He was predeceased by: his parents, Rita Barela and E. V. Barela; his siblings, Esther Castillo and Adolph Barela; and his daughter Bernadette "Wendy" Duran.
He is survived by: his wife Lillian Romero; his children, Charles (Janette), Brenda (Rick) and Desiree; his siblings, Gilbert Barela (Irene) and Vera Sylvester; his grandchildren, Nicole (Justin), Taylor (Brett), Kellen, Kyle, Kinsey, Catalina and Allison; and his great grandchildren, Isaiah, Elias and Wesley.
