He was predeceased by: his parents, Shirley M. Tate and John C. Tate Jr. of Greensboro, NC; and his sister-in-law Anne H. Tate. He is survived by: his wife Judy Tate; his children, Emily Tate (Will Rounds) and Nat Tate; his granddaughters, Eliza and Sophie Rounds; his brothers, John C. Tate III of Raleigh, NC and Dr. David Tate (Karen Davis) of Chapel Hill, NC; his niece Meg Tate Ergenzinger; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Ellie and Kate Ergenzinger; his niece Dr. Rebecca Tate Jones (Dane Jones); and his great-nieces, Caroline and Sophia Jones.
