He was predeceased by: his parents, Hoyt Houchen and Doris Houchen; his brother Ronald Houchen; his sister-in-law Rita Simmons; and his nephews, Bryan Simmons and Clint Finney.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Louise Houchen; his children, Dennisa Cowley (Doug) and Jason Houchen (Rene); and his brother Larry Houchen. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and many beloved friends.
