He was predeceased by: his parents, John Morgan Tilton and Clara Lilly Tilton; and his brother Thomas Dwain. He is survived by: his children, Patricia Lynne (Charles), Timothy Wayne (Roxanne), John Patrick (Tanya) and Karen Marie; and his former wife Eileen Tilton. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
