It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Joseph Avina (Pueblo, Colorado), who passed away on July 11, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Isador Atencio; his grandmother Concepcion Aviña; and his sister Lorraine Atencio Fields. He is survived by: his sons, Russell Aviña (Nicole) and Adam Aviña; his mother Jennie Salas; his siblings, Robert Salas (Ellen), Ronald Salas, Reuben Salas (Phyllis), Ronald Atencio, Leonard Atencio (Kathy), Annette Atencio Bubak (Jim) and Trina Atencio Cleveland (James); his girlfriend Mary Ellen Trujillo; and his former wife Lorraine Aviña. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Romero Family Funeral Home (110 Cleveland St, Pueblo, CO 81004). A rosary will be held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (1145 S Aspen Rd, Pueblo, CO 81006). A Mass will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Roselawn Cemetery (1706 Roselawn Rd, Pueblo, CO 81006).
