He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Wessler and Clara Wessler. He is survived by: his children, Monty Dean (Ellen), Charla Cay and Vonn Lyle; his wife Laura Ethel Arbuthnot; his sisters, Mona Millican and Ruth Wilson; his siblings-in-law, Thelma Arbuthnot, Bonnie Arbuthnot, Jackie Packard and Curtis Arbuthnot (Bonna); his stepmother Elsie; his brother Eugene; his parents-in-law, Virgil and Linnie Arbuthnot; his son V. L.; his children-in-law, Kelley and Mike Williams; and his brothers-in-law, Billy Arbuthnot of John Arbuthnot, L. R, Millican, A. R. Wilson and Leonard Packard. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
