Derrick Matthews Obituary

We bid farewell to Derrick Matthews of Sterling, Colorado, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on April 28, 2026 at the age of 57. Derrick touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, Mable Lee Matthews and Roosevelt Bickham Jr. Derrick (Shawna Brawley); his brother Tracy Matthews; his uncles, Eddie Matthews and Kevin Dorsett; his grandparents, Bertha Matthews, Darlene "Grannie Bae" Hradecky, Harold and Louisa Banks; and his cousin Ty Stettner.

He is survived by: his wife Shawna Matthews; his children, Kyle Strecker of Sterling, SheaLynn Murphy (Damien) of Sterling, Mason Brawley (Ashley) of Sterling, Cheyenne Looney (Josh) of Fleming, Jasmine Figueroa (Sarah) of Sterling, Derrick Augillard of New Orleans, LA, Jordan Cooper (Alexandra) of Englewood, CO and Patrick Cooper of Oregon; his siblings, Cleveland Matthews of New Orleans, LA and Toni Marshall of New Orleans, LA; his sister-in-law Daisy Cooper (Aric); his nieces, Jamecia and Danica; his nephew Keegan of Greeley, CO; his brother-in-law Gary Mix (Kristi); his nephews, AJ, Vinny and Frankie of Greeley, CO; his mother-in-law Audrey Mix of Sterling, CO; his pets, Luna and Nola; and his grandchildren, Kaden, Elijah, Dominick, Gaby, Amara, Ruby, Jensen, Gabriel, Penelope, Paisley, Mia and Ryan. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 4th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home and Crematory (443 S 2nd St, Sterling, CO 80751). A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, May 5th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
