She was predeceased by: her parents, Floyd Edgar Gabel and Oradell Gabel (Schachterle); her husband Maynard Allen Sonnenberg; and her siblings, Vi Proctor, Joyce Walker and Vern Gabel.
She is survived by: her children, Randall Alan Sonnenberg, Mitzi Dawn Knutson (Orrin), Samuel Lee Sonnenberg (Julie) and Timothy Edward Sonnenberg (Tammy); her grandchildren, Orrin J. Knutson, Vickie Pennington, Robert Sonnenberg, Tara Cutshaw (Matt), Cheyenne Miller (Kail), Montana Allen (Charlie), Jared Sonnenberg (Rita), Jordan Sonnenberg (Cassie), Noelle Corman (Derek), AJ Sonnenberg (Sarah), Amy Sonnenberg-Drury (Kate), Cody Sonnenberg (Alissa) and Daniel Sonnenberg; and her siblings, Eula Hergenreter (Don) of Denver, CO and Larry Gabel (Beth) of Colby, KS.. She is also survived by 22 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren.
Viewing was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home and Crematory (443 S 2nd St, Sterling, CO 80751). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Nazarene (1600 Sidney Ave, Sterling, CO 80751). A burial was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at the Riverside Cemetery (18611 US-6, Sterling, CO 80751).
In lieu of flowers consider donating in Verna's memory to her favorites; Sterling Church of the Nazarene, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Hospice of the Plains.
