He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucas Joe Barela and Genevieve Barela; his wife Peggy Taylor; and his nephews, Duane Barela, Lucas Wiggs and Raymond Garcia.
He is survived by: his daughters, Keisa Barela, Nakia Glenn (Paul) and Tara Harris (Nathan); his grandchildren, Tenisha Barela, Andrew Glenn, Rylan and Romyn Harris; and his siblings, Raymond Barela, Charles Barela (Beverly), Dennis Barela, Marcella Wiggs (Paul), Shelby Stookey (Rick), Valerie Barela and Virginia Sanchez (Frank). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family, and the countless friends.
