He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Hughes and Frederick Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Mary Hughes; his children, Kevin Hughes (Jennifer), Heather Lewis (Daniel), Rebecca Ludemann (Jeremiah) and Brett Hughes (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Haley Lewis, Eric Lewis, Andy Lewis, Lillian Hughes, Avery Ludemann, Sadie Hughes, Emma Ludemann and Rosalie Hughes; and his sister Patricia Yamada (Robert).

For those wishing to make a gesture in Ron's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.

“We cross paths with many people during our lives, but only a few of them leave a lasting impression on our souls. Ron was one of those people. We met at Loyola University's Lakeshore Campus in the early sixties and became friends. We maintained that friendship throughout our working careers and would often share a beer or two together after work. I was honored when Ron asked me to be best man at his wedding to Mary. I wish I'd known that Ron had been fighting cancer. He'll be missed.”
