He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice Goolsby and Jo Ann Goolsby (Huddleston). He is survived by: his wife Moon Ja Yi; his children, Audrey Kopperud (Bryce) of Timnath, CO, Larry Goolsby (Samantha) of Severance, CO and James Kim (Mira) of Erie, CO; his siblings, Steven Goolsby (Neal) of Loveland, CO and Kathy Goolsby of Arlington, TX; and his grandchildren, Halle Kopperud, Sophia Kopperud, Kaia Goolsby, Kaden Goolsby, Richard Kim and Alisha Kim. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 28th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Redeemer Lutheran Church (7755 Greenstone Trail, Fort Collins, CO 80525).

Mat often gifted donations to his grandchildren's college funds. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Mat by contributing to the future of young scholars—either through a gift to a young scholar or college fund of your choice or by donating to Redeemer Lutheran Church - NextGen Ministries, which supports the spiritual and educational growth of the next generation.
