She was predeceased by: her parents, Theodore Demers and Estelle Demers; her brother Keneth Demers; and her brother-in-law Ed Uptain. She is survived by: her husband Kunihiro Kaneda; her siblings, Donald Demers and Paulette Demers-Uptain; her children, Paige Westerfield and Jan Duprey (Patty Sofianos); her grandchildren, Anna Duprey, Ray Dinsmore, Jonathan Duprey-Kasmire and Kate Duprey-Kasmire; her great grandchildren, Elliot Dinsmore, Ruth Dinsmore and Sylvie Dinsmore; and her cousin David Demers. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
