With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of April Lisa Oates of Bloomfield, Connecticut, born in Hartford, Connecticut, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 19, 2025 at the age of 67. She was predeceased by: her daughter Elissa Oates. She is survived by: her children, Trae Ellis Oates (Monique) of West Hartford, Felicia Erin Van Doren (Matt) of Germantown, MD and Arianna Shirley Oates of Bloomfield; the father of her children Walter Oates of New Britain; her grandchildren, Kairo Oates of West Hartford, Kaliyah Oates of West Hartford, Kayah Oates of West Hartford and Xander Van Doren of Germantown, MD; her siblings, Aaron C. Gaskins, Jr. of Bloomfield and Grace G. Critton of Silver Spring, MD; her niece Ipyana Spencer of Arlington, VA; her nephew Frank Critton of Alexandria, VA; her close friend Reggie Lenon of Bloomfield; and her pets, Karri and Scarlet. She is also survived by her family, especially her children and later her grandchildren.
