He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Eleanor Wilcox Nelson of Branford; his sons, Evan Nelson of Branford and Daniel Nelson (Ashley) of Branford; his siblings, Daniel Nelson (Susan) of San Antonio, FL, Carla Ashby (Roger) of Newport News, VA, Mary Nelson of Atlanta, GA, Christine Nelson of Atlanta, GA, Cindy Edwards (Mark) of Hayesville, NC and Robert Ali of Casper, WY; his siblings-in-law, John Wilcox (Rita) of Boca Raton, FL and Elizabeth Dillon of Milford, CT.; his grandchildren, Brayden, Kayalynn and Kaliana Miller-Nelson; his parents, Frederick Nelson and Anita Walkamo Nelson; his brother Frederick Nelson, Jr.; his niece Linda Kunecki; his aunt Josephine; and his uncle Louis Chapperon. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in Branford.
