He was predeceased by: his parents, Miguel Nieves and Eva Lidia Rosa; his daughter Glady Nieves (Teofila Nieves); and his sisters, Teofila Nieves and Glady Nieves.
He is survived by: his children, Miguel Nieves, Marisol Nieves, Mariano Nieves, Frances Ortiz and Janet Ortiz; his grandchildren, Sheila Ortiz, Denise Ortiz-Lipowski, Darryl Wilson, Briana Wilson, Jennifer Rodriguez, Jomayra Acevedo, Mary Acevedo, Amanda Nieves-Santo, Andre Nieves, Giovanni Nieves and Jannelis Nieves; his siblings, Maria Andino, Colassa Nieves and William Nieves; and his nephew Miguel Angel Andino. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
