It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Melvin O'Brien Jr. of Bristol, Connecticut, who passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James M. O'Brien, and Minnie O'Brien, Sr. (Brandt); and his siblings, Dorothy Sokolik, Bernice Kellogg and Thomas Mahony.
He is survived by: his wife Johanna O'Brien (Carnein); his children, James M. O'Brien, III of Bristol, Jeffrey O'Brien (Julie) of Southington and Jennifer Degrave (Christopher) of Harwinton; his grandchildren, Bradley White, Fiona O'Brien, Isla O'Brien and Cameron Degrave; his sister Maureen Hogan (Richard) of Wolcott; and his mother-in-law Mary Carnein of Bristol. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
