He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard E. Polzin and Betty Polzin (Burkard); his former wife Vivian Polzin (McElhattan); and his stepdaughter Allyson Krieger. He is survived by: his wife Joan Polzin (Schwartz) of Brookfield, CT; his brother Kurt Polzin of Philadelphia, PA; his children, Ruth Matern (Rick), Christine Saffi (Joseph) and R. Stephen Polzin (Kathy); and his stepson Daniel Krieger. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt. Pleasant Road, Newtown, Connecticut, 06470.
