He was predeceased by : his spouse Helma Defronzo; and his parents, Felix DiFronzo and Rose DiFronzo. He is survived by : his significant other Ivelisse Cruz of Thomaston; his partner's child Daniella; and his brother Raymond Difronzo (Madeline) of Waterbury.

Just before the outbreak of COVID in 2021, Gene was honored for participating in over 760 marathons and was ranked # 14 by the North American Mega Ranking for Eternal Endurance.
