He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Mato and Anne Mato (Omasta); his wife Rosmini Mato (Rose); and his cherished Samoyed.

In 2005, Joe and his friend Bernie Rudberg co-founded the Central New England Bus Tour, which they successfully ran until the pandemic.
