He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph W. Viets Jr. and Anita Viets (Rachek). He is survived by: his wife Nancy Viets (Polmatier); his children, Allison Thurston (Manny Birriteri) of Simsbury, Shannon Slater (Brent) of Vernon and Brian Thurston (Becky) of Vernon; his grandson Sylas Slater of Vernon; his sister Bette Jensen (Ed) of East Granby; his siblings-in-law, Robert and Dawn Polmatier of Stafford Springs; his nephew Jonathan Polmatier; his close friends, Michael and Cindy Dillon of Chicopee, MA; and his companions, Socks and Samantha.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home (419 Buckland Rd, South Windsor, CT 06074). A prayer will be held on Thursday, December 18th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Smilow Cancer Center in memory of Richard Viets, c/o St. Francis Foundation, 95 Woodland St., Second Floor, Hartford, CT 06105.
