He was predeceased by: his spouse Jean Kennedy Hammell; his daughter Dianne; his brother Robert Hammell; and his parents, Frank Hammell and Virginia Marino Hammell.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas F. Hammell (Lori) of Old Saybrook, Martha Clark of Groton and Frank A. Hammell; his child-in-law Gail Hammell of East Haven; his stepbrother Harry Marino of New Haven; and his friend Ian Teviotdale of Groton. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
