He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Mathis and Marjorie Mathis; his wife Virginia Mathis; and his grandson Shannon Mathis. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, their spouses, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
