She was predeceased by: her father Hoyle Moore; her husband Joseph Chester; her stepfather Roy Hooks; her sister Julianne Tillman; her parents-in-law, Elisha and Dorothy Chester; her siblings-in-law, Calvin Chester and Imogene Chester; and her friends, Shirley Satchell, Etter Jean Elliott, Emma Tyson and Elder Karen Davis.
She is survived by: her mother Erline Shoffner (Hairston); her children, Candace Chester Mafe (Olukunle Stephen), Joseph J. Chester and Chari Chester Anderson (Edwin); her siblings, Hoyle Moore (Norma), Marilyn Moore and Sandra Holloway; and her grandchildren, Sydney Satchell, Jaelyn Chester, Edrick Anderson, Eli Anderson and Emoni Rainey. She is also survived by godchildren; sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family.
Visitation was held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Liberty Christian Center (23 Vine St, Hartford, CT 06120). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
A respected professional and community leader, she also served on the boards of Community Health Services, the Upper Albany Merchants Association, My Sister's Place, Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts and DACS Foundation.
