She was predeceased by : her parents, Earnest Wheeler and Ada Youngblood; her husband Walter Thornton; and her siblings, Charlie Chatman, Floyd Chatman, Rosie Chatman Billingsley, Mary Chatman, Flossie Prater, Jessie Evans Hardman, Freddie Evans, Sam Evans and Spencer Evans.

She is survived by : her siblings, Macie Harvell of Chicago, IL, Lois Evans James of Montgomery, AL, Lee McCarter of Chicago, IL, Roy Evans (Deloris) and Donald Evans (Valerie) of Montgomery, AL; her godchildren, Bruce Pratt of Hartford Connecticut and Adessa R. Thomas of South Chesterfield, VA; and her friend Reginia Craig of Montgomery, AL. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Shiloh Baptist Church (350 Albany Ave, Hartford, CT 06120). A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
